Treatment of Sinusitis
A sinus infection is a medical problem that can be unpleasant, irritating and disabling. Treatment of sinusitis aims to reduce symptoms, ease discomfort and prevent the condition from recurring. Most people with sinus infections will get better on their own, but some need additional help from medicine or other treatments.축농증치료
The condition is caused by inflammation of the air-filled pockets in your nose and sinuses, which then become clogged with mucus. The swelling and blockage can then be infected with bacteria. The most common symptoms include a runny nose with thick yellow or green mucus, pain in your face or head, stuffiness, bad breath (halitosis), and pressure in your forehead, cheeks, eyes or jaw. Some people with sinusitis also have headaches, feeling of fullness in the ears and loss of smell.
Your health care provider can diagnose the condition by asking about your symptoms and doing an exam. He or she may view your nasal and sinus areas with a thin, flexible tube, called an endoscope. A special light on the endoscope allows your provider to see inside your nasal and sinus areas. The procedure is usually done by a doctor who specializes in ear, nose and throat problems (otolaryngologists). Regular X-rays of the sinuses do not diagnose sinusitis well.
Allergy medicines can help with chronic sinusitis, especially when a patient knows what triggers the condition. The medications, such as antihistamines, can be taken by mouth or as nasal sprays. In severe cases, your provider might prescribe corticosteroid injections or pills to help with inflammation and swelling.
Some complementary and alternative therapies, such as acupressure or facial massage, might ease symptoms of sinusitis, including drainage, pressure and discomfort. But research on these therapies is limited and anecdotal. You can also try herbal remedies, such as products that contain the herbs cowslip, gentian root, elderflower and verbena. However, be cautious about herbal supplements because some might have unknown or dangerous side effects. Some might interfere with the way your body absorbs certain medications, such as ibuprofen. Talk to your health care provider before trying any of these therapies.라경찬한의원
